Love Peace Chant is hot! David Newman has established a track record and flair for tapping into the heart of age old sanskrit chants and rendering them to us with infectious melodies and deep consideration of their import. Following the success of the albums Into the Bliss and Lotus Feet, David had a lot to live up to and in good step, Love Peace Chant extends the frontiers of contemporary chant music with new, very juicy and appealing arrangements. There are some great sounds with guitars (Phillipo Franchini), sarod (Wynne Paris), tabla (Naren Budhakar) and vocals by David Newman and partner Mira. As on other albums you are helplessly pulled along to the beat and flow with track 1,He Maha Lakshmi and David’s warm, soothing voice. Track 2, Ganesh Gayatri/ Rising Sun is a heart felt and tenderly delivered Gayatri mantra with additional english lyrics and Ganesh mula mantra. But then comes along The Prophet/Hare Krishna and you’re in deep: english lyrics become Maha Mantra, David Newman morphs into Roger McGuinn of Byrds fame and you’ve just astral traveled into Brindavan.
